Open the Circle awarded $50,000 for production of documentary Body of the City through a new partnership between the Field Foundation of Illinois and the MacArthur Foundation

We're thrilled to announce that Open the Circle has been awarded a $50,000 grant for the production of our feature documentary, Body of the City. This grant comes from a new partnership between the The Field Foundation of Illinois and the MacArthur Foundation.

In 2019, The Field Foundation and MacArthur Foundation jointly launched a new program for Media & Storytelling which provides grants to “strengthen and expand the reporting and storytelling capacity of a more diverse set of Chicago news outlets, reporters, and media makers to ensure stories of all Chicagoans are told accurately, fairly and contextually.”

Body of the City frames the lives and artistry of dancers and DJs in Chicago’s footwork dance world across several generations, starting with a dance called “the holy ghost” from the west side of Chicago. The film is scheduled for release in late 2020 to early 2021.

Filmed over the last decade, Body of the City is a collaboration among many, including directors Brandon Calhoun and Wills Glasspiegel. More info: https://otcprojects.org/documentary-film-body-of-the-city
