Footwork Travels provides an opportunity to share toolkits and experiences among Black dance worlds in Chicago and other American cities. In each city we aim to organize a multi-day, immersive string of events including gallery installations, footwork and dance film screenings, dance symposiums and panel talks, a dance rave that focuses on nightlife as a context for learning footwork, as well as other collaborations with dancers and artists across multiple genres. This work builds off our ongoing efforts to extend footwork out of “the club,” and into educational, gallery and other community spaces, like our panel and footwork film series at Theaster Gates' BING Art Books, or our gallery show at Columbia College's Hokin Gallery.
